Mistake 04:33
M is for mixed up confusion, messed up mindset, missing pieces I is inconsideration, instigating late night meetings S is for my sob stories, my stupid lies, my shallow end, simple means, and stillborn dreams, stupid lies my stupid friends Made another mistake, raised it from a seed How many does that make? Another impure deed T is taking all my time with temper tantrums, tall tales A is agonizing over afterthought and age-old details K is 'cause you're killing me with kindness like a kamikaze E is for the evil energy at the bottom of every empty bottle e is for the e in he, the e in her, the e in she, e is for the e in me but there ain't no e in you. Made another mistake, raised it from a seed. How many does that make? How many promises can I break?

Got into a fight playing blackjack one night with a couple of Micks from Mineola The ham-fisted man was bottom-dealing for a better hand He thought I was much too drunk to notice His loud-mouthed wife, she cried and screamed and begged for his life But I had him pinned to the wall and choking I said, "Booze is the grave, the grave-digger and the spade, the grave-digger's wife and family too. Each man picks his own brand of poison. Tonight your poison's got ahold of you." Now I can apologize to protect the innocent, take advantage of weakness, and the rest of the world is denied. I can lie to protect my own interests, take advantage of weakness, and the rest of the world is denied. "I am no man's weakling," the investigator said to me, with a grin, standing over the body of a dead ex-friend, "What is this man to you?" The wind whipped the words from my mouth and all the detective heard was a grunt of ignorance and pain. The sound of history all error, blame, and mystery, but his was not the face of a killer. Now I can apologize to protect the innocent, take advantage of weakness, and the rest of the world is denied. I can lie to protect my own interests, 'cause I'm drunk on American and I'm choking on my own fears

about

In the spring of 1998, Jonathan helped reunite Robby and Barbara after about a 15 month hiatus. When he joined the band, we called ourselves "Garnet Arlene," but we were still Big Heifer at heart. The 4-track demos were recorded during the summer of 1998 and mixed later that year at ACR in Baltimore by Craig Bowen.
Mike Butler recorded House on Fire, Mistake, and Hit or Misses at his house out near the lake. Climbing the Rafters was recorded by Robby and Barbara in Robby's living room. All other tracks were recorded at Robby's house by the extraordinary Jason Dove. He drove up from Atlanta to work with us and provided keyboard craziness on Tickle Monster, and extra drums, vocals, and hand claps on Dead Stars.
In late fall of 1998, Graham Courter joined us on guitar, and we returned to ACR in March of 1999 to record 4 new songs (tracks 9-12) and another version of Dead Stars.

about

Big Heifer Albany, New York

Robby, Barbara, and David got together to play a Halloween show in Chattanooga, TN in 1992. They had 5 songs for the party. They wrote more pop songs and laughed a lot. They did some touring and recorded a few records. Somewhere along the way they moved to Baltimore for a while and did more of the same. Like all good things, it came to an end. Thank goodness for the inter-webs. Enjoy. ... more
